Week 9 Homework

2010 SPIRITUAL JOURNEY: ‘Why the Emphasis on Jesus?’

Week’s Topic - Jesus: King with a Purpose (Mark ch.11:1-11)

Monday:  Day 58

Bible: Isaiah 53:1-9; Mark 10:32-34

Reflection: 1. As you read through both of these passages, how do they line up with one another?

2. If the prophecy of years ago was for a suffering servant to save the people, and Jesus then makes the prediction of His victory through suffering, what does this mean about the cross? In other words, do we place our emphasis on the weakness of Pilate, the anger of the religious leaders, the fear of the disciples or the actions of Jesus?

3. Have you ever been faced with a choice to do something you knew was right but in the end would be completely difficult? Describe what you chose and what happened.

4. Try to put yourself in the sandals of Jesus. Moving on knowing the pain of the events to come. Persevering while your best friends take off. Clinging to faith as you know the humiliation you will face is completely unjust. What do you see? What do you feel? How does this speak to you?

Prayer: Praise the Lord for the fact that no one took Christ’s life but that He actually laid it down for our eternal life. Praise God!

Week 8 Homework

2010 SPIRITUAL JOURNEY: ‘Why the Emphasis on Jesus?’

Week’s Topic - Jesus: King over Culture – Part 2 (Mark ch.10:1-12)

* The first 2 homework days are based on marriage. For those unmarried,  pray for those in a marriage covenant to stay united & serving one another.

Monday:  Day 51

Bible: Read Ephesians 5:21-33

Reflection: 1. In that opening verse of 5:21, we are told that we must submit to one another. What does submission look like for you as a wife/husband?

2. How are you doing at submitting in the role you find yourself in? How are you serving your spouse?

3. What can you do to specifically build into your marriage unity and commitment?

4. Our success in the role we’re in (wife/husband) starts with us allowing God to love & serve through us. How are your times with God these days? Are you surrendering it all to Him?

Prayer: Pray that God would impress upon you a desire to serve and give rather than to fight for your rights.

Week 6 Homework
2010 SPIRITUAL JOURNEY: ‘Why the Emphasis on Jesus?’
Week’s Topic - Jesus: King over Death (Mark ch.8:27-38)

Monday:  Day 37
Bible: Read John 12:20-29
Reflection: 1. What reason did Jesus give for the need of His upcoming death (v.24)?  Describe the symbol of the dying kernel of wheat.
2. What is Jesus saying to us in v.25-26? Apply this to your own life today - are you seeking these days to save your life or to lose your life for Jesus?
3. In the statement of Jesus in v.27-28, how does this prove that the cross and resurrection was not an accident or some successful evil plot by the people to eliminate Jesus?
5. What goes through your mind knowing that Jesus Himself knew what was ahead of Him yet still walked the journey for you and I in complete obedience?
6. Knowing His sacrifice for us, what is it in your life that has yet to be sacrificed for Him? What are you still holding on to?
Prayer: Pray a prayer of praise for Christ’s faithfulness in journeying to the cross. Commit to the Lord your desire to lay down your own life in response to His sacrifice for you.
